For bowls clubs

The bowls club app built for the match secretary.

A bowls club season is a long list of friendlies, county league fixtures, club competitions and roll-ups, mostly organised by one match secretary with a fixture book, a noticeboard in the pavilion and a phone that rings every evening. Comnly gives the committee one place to post fixtures, collect availability, tell members the green is closed and keep the AGM papers. Members get all of it on their phone in the club's app.

  • Availability for friendlies and league matches
  • Green closure notices with acknowledgement
  • Digital membership cards for the bar
  • Men's, ladies' and mixed section targeting
  • Committee Room for meetings and the AGM

Real scenarios

Where Comnly earns its place

Green closed after overnight rain

Mark the notice as important and it pushes to every member before they pack their woods. You can see who has acknowledged it, so the greenkeeper is not explaining the closure to people at the gate.

Picking rinks for Saturday

Post the friendly against the visiting club to the right section and ask for Going, Maybe or No. The match secretary picks rinks from a live list instead of ringing round twenty members on Thursday night.

Annual subs and competition entries

Attach a Stripe payment link to the subs reminder, the club competition entry or the presentation dinner. Money goes straight to the club's own Stripe account, with no commission taken by Comnly.

Features you will use

Built for the way your group actually runs

Fixtures and roll-ups in one calendar

Weekly roll-ups go in once as a repeating event. Friendlies, league matches, club finals and social afternoons sit alongside them, with reminders the day before so turnout does not depend on the fixture book.

Notices that reach members who never see the board

Draw results, rink changes, open day dates and committee news arrive as a notification from the club. Members who only visit twice a week still hear about the things pinned in the pavilion.

Membership cards that cannot be lost in a drawer

Each member gets a digital card for Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Scan it at the bar for member prices or at the door on finals day. The code rotates, so a card cannot be passed around.

Committee Room for the meeting and the AGM

Agendas, minutes, constitution changes and the green budget live in a private space for the committee, with meeting chat and polls. The handover to the next secretary is a login, not a carrier bag of folders.

Local sponsors in the member feed

The garden centre, the local builder or the pub that sponsors the shirts can appear as a sponsor card members actually see. Comnly takes no cut, so the club keeps 100% of the sponsorship.

Sections without separate chats

Send to the men's section, the ladies' section, the league teams or the whole club. Everyone stays in one app and only sees what is meant for them.

FAQ

Common questions

Will older members be able to use it?

Most of what a member does is read a notice and tap Going, Maybe or No, so there is very little to learn. Joining takes a few minutes from a QR code or an invite link, and a member who gets stuck can usually be helped on the spot at the clubhouse. The committee can see who has joined, so nobody is quietly left out.

Does it suit crown green, lawn and indoor clubs?

Yes. Comnly does not assume a format. Name your sections and teams however your club already does (Saturday league, mid-week triples, short mat, winter indoor) and target posts and events to them.

Can the match secretary post without full committee access?

Yes. Give the match secretary or captain admin rights to post fixtures and notices without access to billing or member management.

Can we take annual subs and competition entry fees?

Yes. Attach a Stripe payment link to any post. Payments go directly to the club's own Stripe account, with no commission taken by Comnly. Stripe charges its standard processing fee separately.

Why are fewer members turning up to roll-ups and friendlies?

It is rarely a lack of interest. Fixtures change after the book is printed, the noticeboard is only seen by members who are already at the club, and nobody likes saying no to the match secretary on the phone, so they simply do not reply. Clubs that keep numbers up publish fixtures early, ask for availability in a way that is easy to answer (including a polite No), send a reminder the day before, and tell members quickly when the green is closed so a wasted trip does not put them off. Comnly handles the posting, reminders and replies; the welcome on the green is down to the club.

Is Comnly only for adults?

Yes. Every Comnly account holder is 18 or over, which fits the adult membership most bowls clubs run.

How do we get members on board before the season starts?

Put a QR poster in the clubhouse, hand out the join link at the AGM, or paste the members email list into the dashboard and Comnly sends each member a one-click invite. The winter months are a good time to do it, so everyone is in before the first roll-up.
